Last chance to nominate for Liverpool Music Awards and new judges announced
NOMINATIONS for the Liverpool Music Awards close tonight at midnight - so there is still time to vote for your heroes of the music industry in our city.
"We've been overwhelmed with the response to nominations so far and we've have had some new names thrown into the hat so with so much to choose from the judges will have a real job on their hands," says awards director Ellie Phillips.
Today I can exclusively announce that I will be joining the panel for the second year running, alongside broadcasters Janice Long, Dave Monks and Billy Butler, Sense of Sound's artistic director Jennifer John, LIPA's founding principle/CEO Mark Featherstone-Witty, University of Liverpool music lecturer Dr Mike Jones, DJ Lee Butler, Chris Bye from the Arts Council.
We will join Yaw Owusu, Spike Beecham, Roger Hill, Steve Levine and Billy Butler, who were announced in the ECHO on the day of the launch.
I am delighted to be helping judge the awards again this year - the standard of talent was outstanding last year in every area.
Whether it's producing, promoting or performing Merseyside punches above its weight in every element of the music business.
I'm looking forward to seeing the nominations and helping select the winners in what is bound to be another incredibly tight contest.
Dave Monks, who hosts the BBC Introducing music show on Radio Merseyside says: "It's great to be involved with the Liverpool Music awards and subsequently getting some of the bands in for live studio sessions on the run up to the big event at St Georges Hall in August."
DJ Lee Butler adds: "I'm so thrilled to be part of the judges again this year for the Liverpool Music Awards. Last year was amazing and the awards are getting even bigger. I have had so many people asking me about them. I can't wait to get involved."
The red carpet awards ceremony will take place on August 25 at St George's Hall as part of the new Liverpool International Music Festival. To nominate visit liverpoolmusicawards.com.
We are also offering an amazing chance for your band to play the awards ceremony. To be in with a chance of winning, all you need to do is send me a demo CD, along with a bit about you. Include the full names and ages of everyone in the band and all your daytime contact numbers.
Send them to Jade Wright, Liverpool Music Awards Band Competition, Liverpool ECHO, Old Hall Street, Liverpool, L69 3EB. We will not be able to return demos. Prizes are not transferable.
