Revealed: The Merseysiders competing for NME Awards 2012
A FILM documenting the life of George Harrison has been nominated for an NME award.
Directed by Hollywood filmmaker Martin Scorsese, George Harrison: Living In The Material World, chronicles the Beatle's rise to fame and documents the solo years when he juggled music with philanthropic work and a career as a movie impresario.
Meanwhile bickering brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher could have even more to argue about following this year's NME Awards after being nominated for Hero and Villain of the Year respectively.
Liam's new band Beady Eye was also nominated for the Worst Band award, while his older brother picked up nods for Best Solo Artist, Best Album and Greatest Musical Moment - and he has already been revealed as this year's recipient of the Godlike Genius Award.
Other contenders for Villain of the Year include coalition partners David Cameron and Nick Clegg, Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga.
The Arctic Monkeys lead the field with seven nominations including Best British Band, Best Album and Best Track for The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala.
Drummer Matt Helders said: "We're up for all the big ones - we're very happy. We had a lot of fun making Suck It And See and it's great to be up for Best Live Band. That's all we do - record or play live - so it's good to be recognised."
This year's awards will be held at the 02 Academy in Brixton, south London, on Wednesday February 29.
The event will be hosted by comic Jack Whitehall and feature performances by acts including The Vaccines and Kasabian who are up for three awards including Best British Band and Best Live Act.
Whitehall is also in the running to pick up an award - his sitcom Fresh Meat is on the shortlist for Best TV Show.
Noel Gallagher will have to take on Wirral singer and songwriter Miles Kane and Florence Welch for Best Solo Artist - with the Florence + the Machine star also up for Best Track and Hottest Female.
She said: "I'd be so excited to win an NME Award - I've never won one. I've only been once to the NME Awards ceremony and it's the drunkest I've ever been at an awards ceremony. I'm very surprised you're having me back. Glasvegas gave me some Buckfast and that was that."
