The great Summer Pops Q&A: Nigel Clark from Dodgy talks about The Clash, The Lightning Seeds and the joy of super powers...

In the next of our series of Q&A interviews with my pick of the best Summer Pops Festival acts, we have Nigel Clark from Dodgy...
Tell us about your band... and how did it all begin for you?
I don't have a band anymore apart from Dodgy. When I play solo these days I either play alone or bring my friend rhett along, he plays guitar and sings harmony.
I've been writing and performing my own songs now for twenty years and it all started listening to my brother Steve's Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd albums in the early 70's
What are your influences, what do you sound like?
Well I suppose my main influences are the bands from the 60's and 70's a certain four piece from Liverpool, the Clash from London and my absolute faves the Pretty Things.
I would hope my own music sounded a little bit like the above.
If you were a super hero, what would your super power be?
Ah if only - I would make a law that if you have
Children you must support them up and till they are 18 no questions you brought them into the world now do the honourable thing and support them or else!!
What are you most looking forward to about this year's Summer Pops Festival?
Playing in Liverpool with the sun shining and a audience totally into the music
What are you least looking forward to about this year's Summer Pops Festival?
The possibility of it pissing down with rain and no one turning up!
What advice would you give to an audience member coming to Liverpool for the first time?
Don't be frightened. Liverpool people can be quite up front and this can be quite off putting to some especially southerners. I have found the good people of Liverpool to be the friendliest in the land.
Other than your own show, what's your hot tip for Liverpool in 2009?
The Real People, Ian McNabb and the wonderful Lightning Seeds
What do you dream of?
Playing guitar with my brother Steve. He passed away this year. God bless.
Nigel Clark plays the Bluecoat with support Rain (unplugged) & Anchorsong as part of the Summer Pops festival on Wednesday 29 July. Box office 0151 702 7770. For details, click here.
