This week we have reviews of the latest offerings from Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Beggars and Kids in Glass Houses

Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip - Angles

At the Benjamin Zephaniah/John Cooper Clarke end of the poetry infused music spectrum, this amuses as much as it entertains. There is a warm and honest eloquence here that begs all those who have long since given up on British Rap and Hip Hop to give it another listen, and be impressed 4/5

Beggars – The Future

Blue Hotel/Riders On The Storm moody sound, words beautifully sung by Jamie Girdler. Somehow reminiscent of James and Space, a dark and intense guitar, House Of The Rising Sun organ sound and relentless drummery make this a breathless exciting ride of a song that you have to play all over again when you get to the end.

Kids in Glass Houses – Smart Casual

Heavy rock geetar slices across thudding bass, solid drums and Aled’s South Wales emotionally raw, ever-melodious voice. There’s a lot of Green Day and Nickleback about this, only lighter. It’s the sort of stuff you hear in the dramatic moments of Smallville and The O.C.
It’s not exactly groundbreaking, but it fits with the current wave of poppy indie rock bands with an 80’s twist. Hopefully, as this band develops, they will find a sound that is more distinctively their own, and more relevant to the 21st century, but until then, it is pleasant enough. 3/5
