Guest column: Sarah Burvill on South Liverpool Music Festival

Sarah Burvill, one of the organisers of the South Liverpool Music Festival, talks about one of the summer's great up-and-coming festivals...

"At midday on Sunday 29th June, Liverpool Cricket Club will be hosting the first ever South Liverpool Music Festival.

"The main focus of the day will be young unsigned bands such as Random Feedback, with a couple of better known local acts, like Zombina and the Skeletones.

"The Christians will be headlining the afternoon, giving their support to the next wave of Liverpool talent!

"The festival is a natural development of our jam nights (the Eggy Jam at Aigburth People's Hall every Friday).

"Over the past 2 years or so we've watched newly formed bands grow in stature, ability and confidence. Random Feedback are a prime example. Coming from schools around South Liverpool this 5 piece played their first nervous gig at the Eggy Jam night 18 months ago, when their guitarist was only 12. They now play with skill, style and stage presence, effortlessly working the audience, and have developed a true song-writing flare!

"But the South Liverpool Music Festival is not just about school age bands and many of the line up are bands that you may see around town, as well as on the European circuit(as fans of Zombina can justify). We want people of all ages to come and enjoy a happy-go-lucky picnic, in a wonderful location, listening to the cream of local talent.

"We are hoping to turn the 29th of June into the first of many successful celebrations of local grassroots talent. We want to show that culture is everywhere in the region, and not just in the city centre.

"Despite the vast quantity of musicians in South Liverpool there’s very few venues. The South Liverpool Music Festival will be a celebration of young (and not so young) talent. By creating a professional platform for new bands to play on, providing a beer tent, and all the usual day out excitement (expect hot dogs, ice cream and face painting) we are sure that the day really will be fun for all the family."

Tickets will be £8 in advance from Pikosound, 252 Aigburth Road, or you can visit the website www.southliverpoolmusicfestival. com for more info.
