Here's a bit more about old Cheapo, including his top five favourite tunes at the moment...

CHEAPSKATE is something special – Bluenote music with a Scouse accent and the wittiest lyrics I’ve heard in a long time.
He’s fresh, raw and absurdly interesting. Not only a musician, but also an artist, filmmaker and writer.
While you’re on his MySpace site listening to his music, have a look at his great new book, and read his blog about Rod Hull and Emu. This man is a genius.
I caught up with him this week to find out more about the music that’s inspiring him.

The Sweetcorns — Some Girls
“I actually robbed this off YouTube, and it's a song I will never tire of. It could be 45 years old, and sounds every bit a classic. I actually wish I'd done it — it's got everything I like, swirly organ, bouncy bassline and killer sing-along chorus. A perfect pop song.”
John Power — Stormbreaker
“His new album has really carried on where Willow She Weeps left off. But it's more than that, its progression yet again. And 10 songs in 25 minutes, no mucking about! Great energy, not a note or word wasted. It's hard to pick a song off the album, but this one reminds me of the Dukes of Hazzard, which could never be a bad thing.”

The Tams —Hey Girl Don't Bother Me
“If he was still at it, I'd ask Jim to fix it for me to be in The Tams. Kind of a poor man's Temptations. They couldn't really match their Soul Train rivals for dance moves but had a go anyway. Once you hear this number you hum it for the rest of the day.”

Smith — Baby It's You
“Most famously recorded by the Fab Four, this classic 60s pop song gets a cool, sultry makeover by Smith. All that's missing is the great ‘cheat, cheat’ backing vocals The Beatles did on their version.

The Bees — Listening Man
“I've tried not to have loads of dead old songs on me list, you know — get some new ones on so I seem like some groovy hepcat. I've just killed it with that sentence! Anyway, I love The Bees' writing and recording style, and if you didn't know better you'd think this was an Al Green Album track or something.”
