The Coral – Put The Sun Back – Deltasonic Records
Another gem from local treasures, the Coral, Put The Sun Back reminds just how good this band are. Poignant lyrics, emotionally sung, blend perfectly with the jangle of the sweetly melodious guitar to make a song that hits you where it hurts, then kisses you better.

ALONE – The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo – Geffen Records
Who’s Rivers Cuomo? He’s the fella from quirky grungy rock band Weezer. This is a collection of his songs as they were first recorded, in his house, alone, as they were developing. There are loads of out of tune bits, botched lyrics and dodgy drumming, so it should be a disaster. But guess what? It is good. Raw and intriguing, this album gives a real insider’s view of the creative process, showing the songs before they got all their rough corners knocked off, letting the core spirit of them shine through all the brighter. The informative booklet in the jewel case further enhances the sense of having a musical conversation with Rivers. Young bands curious to have a yardstick to judge their own home recordings against, and lovers of interesting music will enjoy this, whether they are fans of Weezer or not.

The Metros – Education pt 2 - 1965 Records
The Metros amuse in a Sham 69 sort of a way in this unintentionally funny little ditty. ‘Education’s overrated, and I’m the monster it created…Got a GCSE in music, don’t know how the *** I’m gonna use it’ Hahaha! Haven’t heard such a silly rant against school in a long time - sounds like the school band on Grange Hill, or Neighbours. Made me laugh. 2/5
