The highlight promises to be the MTV Europe Music Awards at the new waterfront ECHO Arena, when the biggest names in music will celebrate in style across the city.
In recent years, the awards have played host to Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, P Diddy, Snoop Dogg, Madonna, Britney Spears and Oasis, and this year it promises to be bigger and better than ever.
But before that we have a whole host of events, kicking off with Liverpool - The Musical, a glittering celebration of the city's musical heritage at the ECHO Arena, with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Ringo Starr, Echo and The Bunnymen, Ian Broudie, The Farm, Riuven, The Wombats, Pete Wylie, Dave Stewart, plus a cast of poets, singers, aerialists, comedians, construction workers, gardeners, and sailors.
A week later, we have the Number One Project concert, showcasing some of the city's finest bands playing historic chart-topping Merseyside hits.
They'll also be putting out an album of the highlights, and releasing Atomic Kitten's re-recording of Cilla's classic Anyone Who Had a Heart in a bid to get the city's first number one record of 2008. Best of all, the proceeds will all go to local charities.
In June Sir Paul McCartney will headline the Liverpool Sound concert at Anfield, June will see the Summer Pops move to the ECHO Arena and the Mathew Street Festival will see the streets packed in August.
Liverpool's own music scene continues to go from strength to strength, with major new albums expected this year from Echo and the Bunnymen and The Zutons.
Echo and the Bunnymen will also play their classic 1984 album Ocean Rain in full with an orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall.
Deltasonic's new big things The Rascals look set for great things. The Wirral trio will be bringing out their debut album early next year, and singer Miles Kane's solo project with Arctic Monkeys star Alex Turner should also be released soon.
Lipa proteges The Wombats are quickly making a name for themselves as 2008's band to watch, and it seems this could be the year that big things happen for them nationally.
