In Spin It or Bin It today we've got reviews of the latest releases from three great artists...

Rufus Wainwright - Rufus! Rufus! Rufus! Does Judy! Judy! Judy! - Geffen

Rufus Wainwright’s performance at a superb gala event in the London
Palladium with a full orchestra and an audience including
celebrities such as Sir Ian McKellan.
This is not one of those dreadful gimmicky things with a jumped up
pipsqueak in a cheap suit trying to sing like Sinatra, this is a
deeply affecting performance of one strange semi mythical performer’s
signature songs by another. Rufus Wainwright is the consummate, uber
charismatic performer. He is as camp as Christmas, and drips glamour
from every pore. He is also warm, funny and likeable in the talky
bits between songs. There is nothing not to like here – it is a
marvellous collection of songs, sung by a performer who more than
does them justice. The cinematography is warm and lovely, capturing
every magical moment, making you feel as though you are right there
on the front row, singing along with every word of every song.
This DVD will rapidly become a firm favorite with lovers of Rufus,
lovers of Judy, lovers of great songs such as Stormy Weather, Over
the Rainbow and That’s Entertainment. It certainly is, Rufus, with a
great big capital E.

Amsterdam - Home

There couldn’t be a more apt title for this wonderfully warm first offering from Amsterdam’s forthcoming album. With rich strings, a haunting melody and Ian Prowse’s superb vocals, this is the perfect Winter song to warm the cockles of your heart.

The Shins – Sealegs – Sub Pop

A sweetly poignant vocal sound blends beautifully with a haunting
melody, in this lovely song that is strangely reminiscent of the
music of both George Harrison and Julian Cope. Wonder what’s with the
strange obsession with all things leg related? Ah well, it takes all
sorts, and this is certainly good to listen to, which is the main thing.
