Great Christmas songs part 7: Thomas Joseph & Murphy on Fairytale of New York

first_guitar%5B1%5D.jpg
In the next in our series of great Christmas songs championed by Merseyside musicians we have Thomas Joseph of acoustic duo Thomas Joseph and Murphy on my favourite Christmas song - Fairytale of New York by The Pogues and Kirsty McColl...

"One of my all time favourite Christmas songs would have to be Fairytale of New York.

Not only is it a great Christmas song but it carrys a strong memory for me.

A memory when I recieved my first guitar (or migtar as i called it then) for Christmas.

It was actually a Ukulele but that didn't matter. It was the best gift I had ever recieved. After Christmas dinner that year my Father played some Christmas songs including Fairytale of New York.

To the delight of the guests I played lead and harmonised! Well at least it sounded good to me..."

Nice one Thomas, a nice little story. It's funny how that guitar probably changed your life, as for it being the best Christmas present ever, I wonder if whoever bought it for you, realised that at the time! Happy Christmas ps I remember when this song first came out, my good friend Leon, who is no longer with us sadly, played it to me, we both loved it, we thought it was so good. So it is great, whenever I hear this song now, with a smile on my face, it reminds me of him! God Bless Leon! Great choice of song, Thomas. Merry Christmas to everyone who reads this page.
