The Wombats - The Wombats Proudly Present A Guide To Love, Loss And Desperation
Bright, bouncy and bittersweet, The Wombats’ hotly anticipated debut album is everything I hoped it would be - packed with witty, radio-friendly songs from the heart.
Backfire at the Disco tells of a date that goes wrong at - you guessed it - the disco, Let’s Dance to Joy Division is an ironic ode about their return to Liverpool, and Lost in the Post couldn’t be more apt right now.
Stardom beckons for these mighty marsupials.
Underworld – Crocodile
Ice cold stars twinkling in the inky heavens, wheeling in majestic orbits make sounds very much like this. Quite hypnotic, Underworld’s latest offering, Crocodile, effortlessly captures you. Let it into your head, and the insistent funky monkey beat keeps things dancey while the ethereal vocals soar and draw you in and hold you, mesmerised.

Wet Wet Wet - Timeless
This aptly named band have come up with a proper damp squib here. As
each track attempts to enfold the ears in thick and cloying layers of
strings and smaltzy orchestration, you feel yourself drowning in
something with little emotional depth or musical consequence. It’s an
overdose of formulaic, old fashioned pop, professionally delivered by
Marty Pellow and the band.
Timeless? Hopelessly dated more like.
