Spin It or Bin It 23/11/07

Read on for the reviews of the latest reviews from Pendulum, Paul Weller and The Good Shoes. Do you agree or disagree? Get your comments on if this gets your goat or gets you cheering!

Pendulum – Granite

There’s something authentically exciting here. A strange fusion of influences that makes it both hard edged and spacey. Might partly be the surfy sci-fi sounds, might be something else – but whatever it is, it contrasts beautifully with the driving rock god vocals, rollicking good guitars and kicking drums. Infectious, urgent and delicious, it is hard not the get up and dance from the very first moment of whirlywaily madly melodic raucous racket. 4/5

Paul Weller – Wildwood Deluxe Edition

Immaculate, crystal clear production highlights the full beauty of Weller’s distinctive voice, lyrics and musicianship. It is a treat for the Paul Weller aficionado to have remixes and previously unreleased versions of the songs, and of some interest to the rest of us in that it shows other sides of the enigmatic Weller. It’s odd, having four versions of Wildwood here, including demo version and one with Portishead, but for the loyal fans, it will be a must have. 3/5

Good Shoes – Small Time Girl

The Good Shoes are a bit Jarvis Cocker, a bit Sham 69, maybe even a bit Jilted John. Their 21st Century Post Punk, guitar rich sound fairly rattles along, with songs of real life, and a bouncy, up-tempo beat. More than anything, they sound like one of those bands your older brother once hung out with. 3/5
