Unsigned Band of the Week

By Jade Wright on Sep 7, 07 08:48 AM

Here at the ECHO we’re always keen to promote new and unsigned talent. I’m planning to introduce an unsigned band of the week slot at the top of each week's music page, and I’m looking for your input.

I'm going to have a bit of a trail run of a small ECHO Usigned Band of the Week slot.
Have you’ve seen a great unsigned band or solo artist? Leave your comment below and tell me all about them, including their MySpace page if they have one.

check out "my amiga" www.myspace.com/myamiga ive seen these guys twice in korova and at the bumper and i was very impressed. i dont quite know how to describe them. it's definetely indie music but it sounds nothing like razorlight, arctic monkeys etc. it's full of energy, the songs are catchy and theres enough fiddly little changes to keep the musos happy aswell. imagine feeding get-up kids melodies to a hot club de paris fan in a cure t-shirt. if you understood that you'll love them!

major major? theyre rubbish, harrison drive? theyre rubbish too! boooooooooring, formulaic, generic uninspired, i could go on. someone sort this out and put something good on here. since when has "dirty indie garage" been something to be proud of? ive never heard of we are the systematics but based on that i have no intention of checking them out

ooooo criticism eh?! haha excellent. I don't know where you got the "dirty indie garage" thing from, we have certainly never quoted that. Suggest a band you like yourself, it is what this page is for!! :) Thanks for having a listen all the same Lisa! x

My choice from the state of New York for the most fabulous unsigned band of the week: THOMAS-JOSEPH & MURPHY, also known as TJ & Murph. Music has been one of my passions for years, and I just discovered these two awesome "blokes" on MySpace a couple of weeks ago! I could listen to their music all day. Their melodies and guitar are so intricately woven...and each song an intimate story...a short film begins to play in my head along with their wonderful sound. When I listen to them, I feel like I'm at the movies and a concert at the same time! SOMEONE PLEASE SIGN THESE GUYS AND DO THE WORLD A HUGE FAVOR!

i got "dirty indie garage" from we are the systematics comment above. isnt there something inherently sad about suggesting your own band on these things?? as for my suggestions im really not sure, the liverpool music scene is pretty turgid at the moment. go faster are alright, but they only really have one song, they just play it 8 or 9 times a set with different lyrics.
lisa dean said:
actualy let me suggest wavemachines. as they are actually good

Well i think you have all embarressed yourself and proven that your are not the capital of culture. The Strokes, White Stripes, Hives, Clash, Nuggest album = Garage bands, also pretty succesful and not shite, but you know whatever, at least you guys have the Beatles..... and cast.....
N.A.O said:
well vince.. Capital of Culture wasn't just for music so I think it is you who has indeed embarrased himself! Culture covers all areas of the arts, not just music. Liverpool has an amazing history in architecture and sport. the Africa Oyé festival was another winner among the judges! and besides... You missed out The Coral and the Zutons from your list of artists. oooo and Dead 60's, Echo and the Bunnymen, Frankie goes to Hollywood, Pete Wiley, Lightning Seeds(particularly Ian Brodie) who is now making his mark as a producer! There are loads more bands to have contributed to Liverpool being an absolutely amazing city of talented musicians but I am too young to go into the 80s on this one.

Well done :) Liverpool is truely an amazing city. ooh Cilla Black you forgot her.

I was lucky enough to catch The Fountains in Korova couple of months ago when I was last in Liverpool and was really into what they do-not one of the many 'trendy'or'retro sounding' bands/artists I'm so sick of hearing at gigs at the moment, unique sound, great band to watch visually to (they smile!)-The Fountains were a breath of fresh air man! Check them out on Myspace: www.myspace.com/thefountainsuk that track of there's: 'Voices' it just won't leave you're head! Craig
