Cheapskate Q&A

cheapskate.jpg
I can proudly announce, with a drumroll, that our Q&A interview today is with Cheapskate. He's everyone's favourite exponent of Bluenote music with a Scouse accent, packed with humour, originality, and exuberance. He's giving us a glimpse into his world... take a peek below...

"I'm currently producing a short film which i hope to be on my myspace page before too long," says Walter Cheapo. "And as a break from the ever continuing process of music making i'm in rehearsals for a Cheapskate acoustic show. Maybe coming to a venue near you before long....!"

The best piece of advice I’d give someone thinking of starting a band would be…Dont get too hung up on your sound, or on who plays what. The Band had all their kit set up in the front room and just hopped on whichever instrument was nearest after breakfast...

The best thing about playing live is…
Got the be the showing off hasn't it!!? I like to write stuff that makes me want to dance, so I do enjoy a bit of a shuffle when I'm playing live. Thats a little something for me whilst i'm playing for you.

I love…Sticking "Getaway" by Georgie Fame on dead loud whilst i'm getting ready to go out.

I hate…Coffee.... the smell is so inviting, the taste is so offensive. If there's ever a book who's cover doesn't tell the story, its the book of coffee.

I want…A nice cup of tea. Its the answer to everything. Anything can be achieved over a cup of tea. Bring back bone china cups and saucers I say.... and gentlemen in suits.

If you only listen to one song this week it should be…Half Way There by The Great Northwestern Hoboes

The song I wish I'd written is…Tough call, either "Hot Burrito Number" by The Flying Burrito Brothers or "Whole Lot of Shakin' In My Heart" by Smokey Robinson.

The best thing on TV is...Why Dont You... is that still on? Take a banana, ice cube tray and water. Hay presto... fruity cubes.

If I could be in any band it would be…Current band, probably The Bees. A band from history, perhaps the Blue Flames or Curtis Mayfield's band.... now that's a jam i'd like to be in on.

No-one knows this, but…When I stick "Getaway" on before a night out, i wander round the flat miming into mirrors and reflective surfaces whilst getting dressed....

If money was no object I would…be ditching the 9to5, buying loads of vintage kit and starting the best regular night out since the Wigan Casino.

My perfect day would be…sunny, but not warm - kicked off with tea and toast and largely based around daytime drinking, laughter and football songs.

I dream of…hearing Martin Tyler and Andy Gray having to commentate on Liverpool clinching the title and enjoying the sound of it sticking in their cliche ridden throats.

If I could go back in time and give myself one piece of advice it would be…two whiskeys good, three whiskeys bad.

My dream date would be…28th April 2005, 3pm Cotton Exchange, Liverpool.

Liverpool is… an inspiration, and somewhere to be proud of. It makes you feel a few inches taller.
