Rising stars from across the city are set to shine at a free gig at the Picket tomorrow night
Now in its third year, Streetwaves has selected music acts from each of Liverpool’s five neighbourhoods (Alt Valley, Liverpool East, City and North, Liverpool South, and South Central) for this gig.
Highlights promise to include sublime acoustic duo Thomas Joseph & Murphy. Their beautiful songs and interwoven harmonies mark them out as ones to watch.
With an American country twang, The Bo Weevils' soulful tunes have blues undertones and a sunshine Stevie Wonder vibe, combined with a bit of ukelele and some mouth organ action.
The lads, from Stockbridge Village, are Chas Owens on lead vocals and guitar, Andy Holland on bass and vocals, Ian Barton on guitar and keyboards, Steve Buhagiar on guitar, vocals, mouth organ, ukulele and Gavin Richards on drums.
Chas sums it up by saying: “We’re just like any band you’ve never heard before.” Well, if that doesn’t clear it up you better pop along and see for yourself.”
There will also be performances from: The Volumes, Dominant Species, Major Major, Barry Briercliffe, Michelle Strahan, Aspen Grove, Laura Oakes, Stephanie Kennedy, Xtine, Brutal Silence, Sarah Whitfield, Josephine Grace, Guru Sales, and MC Inferno.
As well as Friday night’s performance, the acts will also get to record a CD with the other winners at Elevator studios in Liverpool. For more information log on to www.myspace.com/streetwaves 2007. The gig will run from 5pm-10pm on Friday August 24.
