Festival organisers have apologised for pulling the plug after the event was forced into a last-minute change of venue away from Liverpool Cricket Club in Aigburth, when the wet weather sparked safety fears.
But, the move prompted a cut in ticket prices from £35 to £25 and a reduction in capacity from 10,000 to 3,000 and now bosses say it cannot break even.
Livefest was to have seen hometown sons Shack, “country acid house” collective Alabama 3 and hillbilly-rock crossover band Hayseed Dixie play alongside a host of unsigned local talent on August 11.
Festival co-ordinator Sarah Mutch said: “It is with great regret that the Livefest team announces that the 2007 event has been cancelled.
“Following an earlier decision to move the event from its original home at Liverpool Cricket Club to Mountford Hall, in order to avoid the recent bad weather, the festival directors have now been forced to make the decision to cancel the event entirely.
“This is due to the cost of moving the event and the decrease in venue size no longer making the event financially viable. This in turn has affected the event’s ability to host features such as the Real Ale Fair and other attractions, and the team feel the festival would not have lived up to the expectations that had been created.”
Anyone who has bought tickets will receive a full refund by contacting the ticket agency through which the tickets were purchased.
