Six of the Best 2

Drumroll please!!!
After weeks of build up we can now proudly announce our second six of the best...
Here are six of our favourite unsigned local acts. Our reviewing team have picked the bands they love from widely different genres, which have very different sounds, but the thing that unites them is quality. They are all excellent musicians and songwriters, and we think they encapsulate the best of the Merseyside sound right now.

And if your favourites aren't up there this time remember - these are six of the best, we're not saying they are the six best - there are many other talented acts out there and we're hoping to repeat this showcase as often as we can.
For now, have a listen to these guys on MySpace and let us know what you think...

The Lapis – A gem of a band

Simply great. This band ooze class, one of the best voices out there.
Superb songs, and a fine set of musicians go to make this band something special. In Dylan, Doors, Cream vein, their effortless cool, and authentic sound put this band in a different league.
Parr St. Music competition winners – with good reason.

Standout Myspace track – I’m Flying

Laney Murphy

With a voice as warm and sweet as her personality, singer songwriter Laney Murphy is a much loved part of the Liverpool music scene. Laney sings the soulful feelgood blues, with a style of her own that somehow recalls the late great Janis Joplin. There’s a rare authentic quality to Laney Murphy and her music. She’s a treasure - go and see her live, and be blown away.

Jennifer John – Heavenly vibe

Jennifer John has real presence. Her voice is smooth, sultry even, and effortlessly soars and swoops from the heights to the depths. Her songs are simple, sophisticated, lovely. A huge talent, Jennifer sounds a little like Joan Armatrading, a little like Sade, but always original and fresh. This is music to savour, while sipping something cool on a starlit evening on a palm fanned tropical beach, or at New Brighton with a half a shandy. Jennifer’s music would make it heavenly wherever you were.

Indigo – A star in the making

Indigo’s music is all about the songs, and the passion they are sung with. Simply performed and recorded, they have the power to stop the listener in their tracks, where they remain, locked in until the very last note. Soul deep and truthful, these songs recall those of David Grey and Steven Fretwell, and give them a run for their money. Indigo has huge talent, and it’s a real privilege to listen to him at this early stage of what must develop into a stellar career.

Standout MySpace song – You Never See it

Cedar Falls – Tree Toppers

Cedar Falls heartfelt songs of love and loss have a raw emotional edge, carried by their fine musicianship, especially their superb guitar, piano, and outstanding vocals. This band are good - really good, and their songs go right to the heart
There’s a taste of The Baby’s, Blue Oyster Cult and Snow Patrol in here, but their overall sound is strictly their own. They already sound like a Glastonbury headlining band, so you don’t need to be a genius to predict the direction this band are going in.
To the very top of the tree…

Standout MySpace song - Statues

Darnell – Smooth Sophisticated Sounds

Darnell make smooth, cool, soulful pop.
Their songs remind a little of Spandau Ballet and Lamarr, with their lovely vocals and mellow vibe. The sophisticated musical arrangements give the self-penned songs a real touch of class.
Get into the Darnell groove. Yeah baby, yeah!
