Livefest

Remember the old days when festivals were about saving the world, and packed with charming hippies, happy rockers and unforgettable performances?

A host of talent from the folk/rock scene is set to descend on Liverpool as it gears up for the city’s first eco-friendly music festival.

Livefest is due to take the city by storm this August when a host of acts including Alabama 3 and Hayseed Dixie will arrive to perform at the one-day event to be held at Liverpool Cricket ground in Aigburth

The green event will be the first of its kind in the North West and is set to attract some 10,000 music lovers to the city to watch a fusion of international, local and unsigned talent take to the stage.

Festival director, Tony Rothwell comments: “Livefest has been in the planning stages for some time, we have been very busy making sure the event is as green as it can be and of course, choosing the right acts for a landmark festival as this.”

“Not only have we managed to secure acts from around the world but some of Liverpool’s best talent will also be on offer. Livefest is Liverpool’s alternative contribution to a festival season packed with the same line-ups – if you want something different that the whole family can enjoy, mark Saturday 11th August in your diary.”

Livefest will be the ultimate family day out, with picnic areas around the site and family tickets available, the event will enjoy a friendly and safe atmosphere.

It is Unison’s stamp of approval, which has allowed Livefest to go green. The principles outlined in Unison’s latest campaign Green Unison, include tackling climate change through the use of renewable energy sources, boosting energy efficiency and creating a sustainable and integrated transport policy; all of which are being championed by Livefest.

Not only will all waste from the event be recycled by Unison, but festival goers are being encouraged to use the special public transport links created with the help of Mereytravel, as well as strongly advocating car-sharing if travelling in your own vehicle.

As well as sporting a green theme, Livefest is also providing local talent with a platform to showcase their material. Performances from Jade Gallagher, local folk band the Diesel Fitters and The Fountains will grace the secondary stage at this year’s event.

Livefest will take place on Saturday 11th August 2007 at Liverpool Cricket ground. Visit www.livefest.co.uk or www.myspace.com/livefest for more information on the festival.
