He's a mate of The Maccabees, he invites the crowd up on stage with him, and tonight he's in Liverpool - Jack Peñate is fast becoming an irresistible force.
His recent, debut release for XL Recordings – the single Spit At Stars showcased to the nation a genuine, exciting raw talent for the first time.
The accompanying video carved up TV plays a plenty, he got immense support from Radio 1 and XFM (it was made Jo Whiley’s Single of the Week and was never off Zane Lowe’s deck) and the NME went crazy for him, declaring “the word cool doesn’t even begin to articulate his wonder.”
Not one to hang around, it appears, his next release, Torn On The Platform, is out on Monday. It talks of a journey on a train, leaving a town he’s not sure he wants to leave.
He plays Academy 2 tonight, for more information see www.myspace.com/jackpenate.
