Saturday night

Tomorrow sees what promises to be a legendary gig at Zanzibar, with three of Merseyside’s best up-and-coming acts.
The Vagabonds (pictured right), fresh from supporting The Wombats at the Carling Academy, will be sharing the stage with Wirral rising stars The Hot Melts and LIPA protege Eugene McGuinness.

With a hectic schedule of tour dates under their belt, the Vagabonds are quickly proving themselves to be one of the most exciting young acts coming out of Merseyside.
They have previously played alongside The Kooks and The New York Dolls, and headlined the Mathew Street festival.
“The New York Dolls spotted us on MySpace and asked us to support them, says bass player John Cole.
“It was amazing - we really like their stuff, so it was great.
Their other support band at the gig was Donny Tourette’s band the Towers of London.
“It’s going to be a really big gig on Saturday, says John.
“We’re really looking forward to it.
The Vagabonds sound a little bit like The Clash and Gang of Four and highlights promise to be Jack and Jill, Russian Roulette (you can hear recordings of both on their MySpace site) and What’s Your Number.
They are the aptly named Billy Singer on vocals, Phil Atkinson on guitar, John Cole on bass, and Wayne Fleet on drums.
Catch them while you can - they have a residency in Chester this month after just one gig and are currently putting some finishing touches to two music videos recorded last week.
Hotly-tipped Wirral lads the Hot Melts describe their sound as “keyboard infused rock for the kids to the bids.
They sound a bit like Weezer, a bit like The Strokes and are generally fantastic.
Then there’s Eugene McGuinness, who seems to be popping up everywhere at the moment.
He is a fantastic songwriter with a fluid, lyrical voice - look out for Oh and Like a Stroke which are sensational live.
There will also be a set from Jonny Sands, adding a bit of folky acoustic magic, and indie popsters The Answering Machines.
Entry is £5, but if you’re quick you might just be able to get on the half price guest list by logging onto www.myspace.com/thevags.
